Title Practical Application of the Greenhat Design Guidelines in a VLE for Students with Disabilities

Abstract Academic demands on students with disabilities have dramatically increased in recent years.  Instruction within a virtual learning environment (VLEs) is one of many tools that teachers can use to support the learning process for students with disabilities. This session will review the lessons learned from a study that used the Green Hat Design Guidelines to design a virtual college, called UCanFnsh within the Activeworlds Education Universe. The purpose of this study was to determine whether VLEs were conducive to learning and applying self-determination skills, a skill fundamental for success in post-high school life.
